About Bex Wilder!

Hi! I'm Bex Wilder!!

Thank you for stopping by to visit A Wilder Finish. Since you're here, you are interested in refinishing, repurposing, and giving new beauty to vintage and antique furniture! Also, you are very likely that do it yourself kind of person, a club that I've been a member of for some time.

DIY has manifested itself in different ways during the course of my life. When I was 10 years old, I tried to dig a hole to China - what kid hasn't taken up such a task. But my friend had parents who actually let us attempt it in earnest. We got pretty far, I think. When I was in high school, I helped my parents remodel our home in Denver. I learned a bit about retiling and wood work back then. Moving on to college, I had to save money. Basically, anything that went wrong in my apartment that had to be fixed, I would attempt it myself. Then I move on to the more mature part of my adult life. I've painted walls, mounted speakers on the walls, installed child safety gates, installed pendant lights and flush mount lights, and a whole host of tasks around the house. My husband doesn't do this - I'm the "handy" in the Bex Wilder household.

My love for furniture started the summer that I moved to New England in 2005. One of my friends took me "antiquing" at flea markets across Western Massachusetts! How much fun - I was totally inspired!! In February 2012, I redesigned my home and bought new furniture. At the time, I bought new but decided that there's got to be a better way to have a custom finish at a fraction of the price.

So I learned and am still learning the trade of refinishing and repurposing furniture! And A Wilder a Finish began!!

By day I head up a research team in the exciting world of finance and economics. By night and weekends, I work on vintage and antique pieces.

I am also a mommy and wife. Life is busy but I am very happy.

In this blog, I present the before and after stories of the pieces that I refinish. Also, I offer tidbits of information learned throughout my trials, tribulations, and successes working with furniture, painting, staining, and even working on projects around the house!

Please leave comments on this blog. I do this for both inspiration AND feedback.
